Giant Tree

INAD-GiantTree
Found On: Madison Craiglist

Tree 25 foot blue spruce: you move it, and fill the hole and you can have it.

One of the oldest tricks in the free classifieds racket – Get them to do work for you under the guise of “take it, it’s free!”* Yes, it may be free, but the man hours – excuse me, man days – required to take down this tree will not be. Pay up.

*The most imaginative one we’ve ever seen was the yard full of leaves someone offered – you rake, you take.

I think I just solved several lawn chores from this idea. I will be posting my free “you cut ‘em grass clipping’s” weekly ad later today. I also have scattered you find, you keep dog droppings for the true nature lover (also available as a weekly subscription!)

Call me a sucker but I would have been all over “you rake you take”. That’s good mulch.

Our local “freecycle” had a posting last winter for “Free snow – you haul”. But then, I think they were kidding.

If it was accessible for a tree spade it would be a good find for someone

A tree that big is really tricky to take down safely – what poetic justice if someone actually answers this ad, shows up to get their “free tree” and it falls on the house.

  6. TT says:

Haha, or it falls on the person who put this ad up. Now THAT’D be poetic justice. The universe’s way for punishing someone who doesn’t want to spend the time or money to take down their own damn tree and get rid of it.

And I hate to burst this person’s bubble, but no, the tree IS NOT FREE. You have to factor in the cost of equipment to get this thing down and transport it, not to mention that you’ll probably need to get dirt from somewhere to fill in the hole afterwards.

  7. I actually found your blog accidently, but wow I’m so glad I did. Thank you for posting this. I will bookmark your blog and your RSS feed.
