Hundreds of Floppy Disks

Found by: Sushila on Philidelphia Craigslist
A box of hundreds of used floppy disks waiting here for you. Let me know I will leave the box on my front porch for you to grab. Each disk has a series of pictures on it.
In keeping with yesterday’s “itemlikelytoincriminate” theme, I’m quite sure you do NOT want law enforcement to be able see this “series of pictures.”
Fortunately for you, however, the FBI got new computers a few years ago – there’s not a floppy-reader in the Bureau. Not even the losers still assigned to the Jon Benet Ramsey case can load a 3.5” disc anymore.
So consider the statute of limitations passed as you overwrite the “series of pictures” with bootleg copies of Oregon Trail. Sure, copyright violation is a crime, too, but a lesser one.

Actually it would be interesting to see what’s on those disks. Might be someone’s amateur porn collection, might be someone’s personal finances. I definitely wouldn’t give away a bunch of computer disks without bulk erasing them all first.
Bored cops, sending out a box of child porn from the evidence room so they can bust whoever picks it up. Thinkin I’ll throw all mine in the chipper/shredder. Not that they have child porn on them, mind you, just stuff nobody needs to be lookin at.
Jon Benet Ramsey? Too soon…
Weren’t they still using tape drives when Jon Benet was going on?
Am I such a creepy voyuer that I NEED to drive to Philly at this moment to pick up these strange pictures? Sure, it might be grampy’s 80th birthday party and COusin Jimmy’s wedding but, hell, there might be fun stuff on those disks! God, I am that creepy, aren’t I?
No, Lisa…I need to see these discs, too. NEED.
@Lisa
I’m creepy-curious, too. Split them with you? I’ll buy if you fly.
*Shrug* Could make an interesting art project.
Think I’ll give the guy a call; find out where he lives and I can add another thousand of those disc’s that I have around here. It would take that many to fill one CD disc. And I do not have a floppy drive…who does?
I do. On the computer I’m using to post this, even.
I don’t remember the last time I’ve used it, mind you, but it’s there.
Someone is all set if IBM 286 ever makes a comeback.
pretty sure the box is more useful than the contents-and worth more $$
Really, if you’re that interested in getting rid of the evidence, these things would melt down really easily… Art project, as said before. Melted Floppy Man?
I always put a floppy drive (actually two) on my main box, just for archival purposes. Motherboards still have jacks, why not? Still throwin the floppies in the chipper/shredder, though.
I like floppies.
@dono1
Sounds like a plan, man. I will take all the pictures with animals and anything lolworthy.
The “some pictures” is suspect.
OH NO CHILD PORN FROM 1990
“Disc” is short for discus, meaning round (e.g. a “compact disc”). These things are called “Disks” or “Diskettes”. You futuristic fools!
Well if it is kiddie porn from 1990, then they’re at least 19 now so it’s perfectly legal! Or at least that’s what my friend Quagmire told me, giggity giggity!
Actually, when I think about it, this would have been funnier if it was a box of 5 1/4″ floppies.
I actually have a freind who was just yesterday askng around for old floppies for an arts and crafts project, apparently there’s a market for them.
at the moment, my disk is floppy…………..
Check your FBI facts, stephen. According to a FBI Computer Forensics Lab press releases dated 08/18/09 (http://www.fbi.gov/page2/august09/rcfls_081809.html) they still have a few floppy drives lying around. In their annual report (http://www.rcfl.gov/downloads/documents/RCFL_Nat_Annual08.pdf page 15), over 10,000 floppy discs were given a going over last year.
@JD
Actually, in Poland the public social insurance (ZUS) still uses them. If you happen to speak Polish or know somebody who does check it out here: http://www.wiadomosci24.pl/artykul/nowoczesny_zus_potrzebuje_130_tys_dyskietek_81315.html
Oregon Trail? Brilliant.
Everyone has the wrong idea. Floppy disks make GREAT drink coasters! Prolly wouldn’t fly all the way to philly to get them though.
