@S. You can keep the ring if your partner did something like beat you, harm your kid, scam you, sleep around on you, etc. Guys can be whores too. But this is all moot because a used engagement ring isn't going to bring anyone more than about fifty bucks these days.

Actually, if the engagement ring was given as a Christmas or birthday gift, then it’s not a conditional gift. Therefore, if you want the ring back, don’t use it as a gift for another occasion!

False. An engagement ring is what is legally termed as a "conditional gift". The gift only transfers ownership once the condition has been met. The condition obviously being marriage. If they never got married it is technically still the property of the person who gave it to her. She is selling someone elses property.

I am not quite sure why it needs to be shown on a hand at all, can’t one hold it and take a picture of it?

They have hand models for a reason. If it belongs on your hand, you don’t shoot anything above the wrist.
