To those of you who wonder why he’s offering his old porn on Craigslist instead of simply throwing it away: you don’t understand. You don’t throw away porn. It grows on you over time and when you finally feel that the time has come to move on, selling it to someone for a symbolic price or even giving it away for free feels much better than throwing it away. It’s like with a pet. When you can’t keep it any more for some reason, you don’t abandon it or make sausage from it. You want it to be in good hands.

Yep, that’s what I use my VHS for, most of the time–just taping stuff off TV. We have a DVD player for the rest of it.

I definitely do. I have three children, and lots of kids’ movies come cheap at the thrift store and Half Price Books, etc., when they are on VHS. I have a DVD player but mainly rent from the library for it. I can’t afford $20 a DVD every time they come out, you know? And, actually, the VHS player has lasted for quite a few years, but I’ve gone through two DVD players in the last few years. It seems like not only are they more expensive, but they break easier, too. I have just bored myself with my own monologue.

Plenty of old videotape out there, and a lot of people can’t necessarily swing a Tivo or DVD recorder deck. Videotape is still the most painless way to, uh, “tape” something.

I just want to know, why is he (she?) getting rid of his/her pornography? Has he turned over a new leaf? Got some religion in him? And if so, why is he sending out the immoral material into the world at large? He’s obviously not going to recoup his money. Maybe his mom found it… Kind of like the line from the Beastie Boys, your mom threw away your best porno mag. Except in this case, to add insult to injury, she’s going to make a little money on the side.
